The 1DMKIII is as clean at the 5D maybe slight edge, also has the advantage of 14bit colour. The images are more tolerant to post processing before noise is apparent.

The diffused light source was halogen. A plain piece of paper for the subject. Lens 85mm f1.8 @ f4.

The purpose of the test was to compare the noise from the 1DMKIII against the 5D, a 350D was also included in the test.

All Camera's set to manual no sharpening, no noise reduction, raw was selected. AWB, but switched to tungsten in DPP, underexposed then increased exposure by 2 stops in RAW.

Test shots were taken

ISO100 at 1/50sec

ISO200 at 1/100sec

ISO400 at 1/200sec

ISO800 at 1/400sec

ISO1600 at 1/800sec

ISO3200 at 1/1600sec

The first comparison was equal settings at the above values.

The second comparison was done after reducing the 5D exposure level 1/3stop to make it the same level as the 1DMKIII. ISO 3200 setting on the 5D is really ISO 4000

each block is 300x300 actual pixel crop
